A Look at Recruitment From the Other Side

These past few weeks were some of the most exhausting but some of the most fun of my life. We literally started prepping for recruitment and our new members the first day of classes. It was a never ending cycle of class, recruitment, homework, sleep. Sometimes, I got to eat dinner.

But then came the actual weekend of recruitment. And it was both everything and nothing what I expected.

For those of you who don’t know, at Belmont, recruitment is just a tad bit different than that of big state schools. Instead of an entire week, ours is just three days and the fourth being bid day. PNMs (potential new members) talk to women in each sorority and eventually, by the last round on Sunday, close in on the one they see their home in.

For me, recruitment was three very long days of constant small talk and smiling (there were times when my cheeks actually hurt from it!). Which, I love talking, but talking for eight hours straight with women you’ve just met is overwhelmingly exhausting. Of course, I met some really interesting people throughout the process and some I even consider friends now!

Yet, as tedious and tiring as this process is on both ends, the weekend absolutely flew by. Throughout these four days and the week leading up to it, I got so much closer to the women in my sorority and was able to spend time with some of my best friends. I spent most of my time with my sorority family which was so much fun. We all got so close in such a short amount of time.

Come bid day, we were all beyond exhausted, but there was so much adrenaline in just the thought of welcoming 60 women into our sorority that we were as pumped as could be. And I must say — bid day on this side was so much more fun than as a new member.

Even though I’m still trying to catch up on my sleep and get my eating schedule back on track, I wouldn’t have traded these first few weeks of this year for anything. I had such a blast and would do it all again in a heartbeat — well, give me about three weeks to catch up, and then we’re good to go again 🙂 DSC_0306
